@ChristiJunior wasn't the cheat just "he used mame lol"
@ChristiJunior but also you would use emulators to practice
In the shmup scene this is considered normal

> You need 30 year old hardware to participate in a race...
Peak nintendo cuck mindset

> Is allowed only if you're losing anyway
Anyway, separate categories is a reasonable solution.
@LukeAlmighty @sendpaws @ChristiJunior well, like pawslut said, it's mainly for practice. There are a lot of leaderboards that don't even require proof if you don't have a top time. I think that's how it works for goldeneye 007 for instance. Anyone taking it seriously enough to get a top time will definitely be playing on console.
@LukeAlmighty @sendpaws @ChristiJunior it depends on the community setting standards for certain things. a lot of it comes down to emulation accuracy as well as trying to cut off an avenue for cheating. the reason why billy mitchell was found to be using an emulator in the first place was because of an inaccuracy. emulation can also make certain things easier, like controller remapping and higher render resolutions.
for ocarina of time, emulator is allowed (pj64 1.6 or 1.7 only) only if your time isn't in the top 10%. for mario 64, emulator and virtual console runs are in a completely separate category.
