@beardalaxy
Thank you, that's actually a great video covering a change that I wasn't even thinking about too much.
@LukeAlmighty yeah, and that's the thing. It's way different. It's extremely hostile towards kids, now more than ever. I don't think just sitting around and saying "let the parents deal with it" is a good solution when they aren't doing anything.
@beardalaxy
Well, but I cannot condemn an entire youth to damnation only because some parents are lazy.
And the way I see it, the offline world isn't build for people either. If you think we lack 3rd spaces now, remember the fact, that kids cannot drink and have next to no exposible income, so what good awaits them, when they cannot talk to their peers either?
Almost nothing good in my life happened offline Finally finding a good community most likely saved my life. And I am not willing to cut this option from others.
@LukeAlmighty >Well, but I cannot condemn an entire youth to damnation only because some parents are lazy.
The thing is that, by doing nothing, you are condemning an entire youth to being groomed, trooned, and otherwise exploited because some parents are lazy. It's kind of crazy how many parents will just give an 8 year old a smartphone without any parental controls or oversight whatsoever. Let alone teaching them about anything they might find there. At least when we were kids we got some basic internet safety and didn't have the internet in our pocket. The family computer was always right where everyone could see. Kids don't really get that these days.
>kids cannot drink and have next to no exposible income, so what good awaits them, when they cannot talk to their peers either?
That's why I was thinking something like a social media platform for kids only would be good. They could still talk to their peers online that way. Other than that though, I mean I think back to when I was a kid and we would just fuckin talk to each other irl or through private messengers/emails (later, texting). You trade online information with people in real life instead of finding total randos on the internet, so you know who they are and everything.
>Finally finding a good community most likely saved my life.
That's good, I'm glad that worked out for you. Let's not forget my earlier point though, too. Kids will seriously join Twitter and get involved in some weird self harm and pedo shit and get groomed into trooning out. Shit, I've seen it on fedi every once in a blue moon sadly.
I think something we can agree on is that "communities" are absolute dog shit these days. ESPECIALLY the ones that are more child-focused. I mean, look at the absolute shitstorm the Smash 4 community went through several years ago where tons of people were either diddling kids, getting diddled by kids, or doing other weird shit like showing kids hentai at private parties. Then there's the Minecraft community which is so bad that being called a "Minecraft YouTuber" is synonymous with being called a pedophile. Let's not even get started with Roblox.
Yeah, I absolutely do not want any kids to be exposed to any of that just because their parents are retarded.
@LukeAlmighty @beardalaxy the death of flash was a fuckup that the Indian suits at Adobe (who also just tried to axe Animate, see: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/02/adobe-reverses-decision-to-discontinue-animate-after-a-lot-of-confusion-and-angst/) didn't understand.
Nobody is making the same kind of games in the HTML5 era, especially ones that don't feel sterile like all the .io games seem to.
@sendpaws @beardalaxy
Yeah, that seriously seem like an Alexandria library of this age...
But I definitely don't doubt it will be the last one during our lifetime.
@LukeAlmighty @beardalaxy While Ruffle exists...the issue is that nobody makes new content for Flash compared to the past and you need it on whatever website you want to run it on. After the 4chan hack a major casualty was /f/ and now other slower boards online deal with it (I know one exists along with swfchan).
@beardalaxy
Kinda reminds me, that online games are nearly gone these days, as well as it's absolutely impossible to find a games, that are anything more then a begging scheme or advert blaster.
It is a different world then the one I grew up in... damn.
