I think we are talking about different things. Men are judging the physique in isolation, women are judging what the physique is likely to indicate in his personality. The before photo looks gregarious and easy-going, the after photo looks high-strung and high maintenance. Think about the typical lady's romance novel, there's the meet-cute, they go on a couple of dates, and only after his personality and interest in her has been established do the go back to one of their places and she discovers he has a six-pack under his suit. Physique is hot only after the relationship is established, before that it seems like it's offputting, or maybe intimidating to a lot of ladies.

I am really not asking to be rude. This is my autism speaking... But, when I go to the Artist alley and look at 30 different artists selling their husbandos, I can still count the number of obese characters on a single hand. An overwhelming majority of them are shreaded. I am not making this particular belief out of thin air. I just cannot see how that preference could be real in the observable world.
