As somebody who is in said fandom from the inside point of view, it's been a microcosm of the general world on the outside. There's been a lot of strife and just for the most part I've been keeping my head down and not attracting attention to myself because I know the moment conventions started having these ribbons with name tags of punching a Nazi, around that time I knew it was all going downhill around 2018.
It's going to be interesting to see which side is the violent one, how con organizers will handle it and whether there's then a shake-up in conventions the way there has been in the media. It might be time that the fandom starts to draw a line at the violence, given how many of the same violent people are often the same ones running them sometimes.
@Dan_Ramos
You would be surprised the convention that's out near me at the GSR which is BLFC. They took a hard stance with COVID and ostracized a lot of good people out here and it also drove a lot of friends that I had over the edge. One in particular being my ex that got that way stating that everybody who doesn't take the vaccine should die a horrible death.
It's been a rough life.
@Mr_NutterButter
Oh, I know. I've seen it too.
@Dan_Ramos @azurusnova yeah a lot of communities I'm also part of have people like that mainly community leaders who will ostracize you if you even speak up against their political ideology.
It feels like living in the USSR knowing that they'll kill you any day now if you do wrong think.
@azurusnova @Dan_Ramos That's super rad
