yo i was actually able to read some japanese today!
didn't have any idea what it said except for the kanji for "day" as well as "no" meaning it was "day of something" but hey learned some vocab haha.
it was "ii futomomo no hi" (いいふとももの日) "nice thighs day."

i've been practicing more on my hiragana instead of vocab lately because i want to be able to play animal crossing in japanese soon.

@beardalaxy congratulations at work is paying off.

But the best thing you can do is truly put all your video games and other things in Japanese because then it forces your brain to think in that language.

@Mr_NutterButter yeah that's what I'm trying to go towards, basically. That's what my brother did for French! Japanese is a bit different though since it has 3 different alphabets. So I want to start with just hiragana, and animal crossing is like the only game that has a hiragana only mode. I know the game well enough that I can navigate around without knowing exactly what things say too.

I actually learned quite a lot of English from animal crossing when I was a kid, so it feels pretty natural to go back to it for japanese lol.

@Mr_NutterButter I wanna do some japanese cover songs at some point too because I feel like learning them line by line will help me learn some stuff!
