I'm curious... could you run a virtual machine inside a virtual machine?
I'll have to try this with VirtualBox. I know there are better software out there, but I'm not gonna spend money on Vmware just for a silly idea I came up with after taking a shower.
@alyx VMware is free for noncommercial users. But it's also not Libre so why even use it
@igeljaeger
Really? I haven't looked into it in forever, and I just always remembered it as being $$$. Maybe I'll looked into it at some point.
@alyx I did try it out on Linux but the installation process is retarded don't waste your time
@igeljaeger @alyx last time I tried to install vmware the installer just didn't work, stick to foss qemu+kvm (gnome boxes) or virtualbox
@phoenix
I've been wanting to give qemu a try, but VirtualBox has been so perfect for me, that I never really lacked any features, so why fix something that's not broken.
@igeljaeger
@a7
How about I piss everyone off and install Windows 10.
@igeljaeger @phoenix

@alyx @a7 @igeljaeger @phoenix Install windows 8.0 like a proper degenerate. Commit to making an ass of yourself!

@VD15
I would, but I no longer have a 8 license. I upgraded that one to 10. I still have several Vista licenses I think.
@phoenix @igeljaeger @a7
@VD15 @phoenix @a7 @alyx is this a windows user coming out thread? Fucking sinners
@alyx @VD15 @a7 @phoenix uuuh that's fine too I guess. Can't you find Libre alternatives to that software?
@igeljaeger
Technically yes, but the windows software is sometimes just plain better.
@VD15 @a7 @phoenix
@VD15
I don't judge one's OS.... unless it's OSX. Those fuckers can burn in hell.
@phoenix @igeljaeger @a7
@alyx @VD15 @a7 @phoenix macos is far more compatible with Linux than windows is. So I'd prefer it succeeding over windows even if it never will
@igeljaeger
Windows literally has a Linux subsystem these days. So not really true anymore.
@VD15 @a7 @phoenix
@alyx @VD15 @a7 @phoenix BRO that subsystem exists to get Linux users off of Linux (mainly coders). It achieves nothing else in terms of windows software being compatible with linux

@igeljaeger @a7 @phoenix @alyx Tell you what, when there's an IDE on linux that can hold a candle to visual studio, I'll move.

@a7
Isn't emacs supposed to have an insane learning curve? Or at least that was my understanding from what i've heard.
@VD15 @igeljaeger @phoenix
@alyx @a7 @VD15 @phoenix do you look at textfiles all day? No? Then forget about emacs
@igeljaeger
But text files are neat! And what if I do want to look at text files all day?
@VD15 @a7 @phoenix

@alyx @a7 @igeljaeger @phoenix I have also yet to see emacs's debugger or editor come close to what VS has to offer.
