Governments are a problem because they are created and lead by imperfect humans. The more you want to solve problems via government, the bigger you'll have to make it, and the more the imperfect nature of humans shows within it.
Cronyism, corruption, short-sightedness, are all functions of humanity. As long as you have a government, you're gonna have these problems affect it.

Sure, but humans will cooperate and learn to deal and manage each other's corruption. They'll make compromises to fit each other's flaws.
A government, by design, leads. It will impose it's corruption on everyone else, and it's harder to cooperate and reach a compromise with it.

It's a bit of a throwing the baby out with the bath water situation. How much of the baby (the government) are you willing to throw out, to get rid of the bath water.
if you want an example of where this would work well, look at companies. in fact, this is exactly how publicly traded companies work. it works there because the goal of a company is to produce profit for its owners. that should not be the goal of the government.
