Gaming question time:
What was the game you were most addicted to, or was closest to become addicted to?

For me it was definitely Diablo 2. There might be other games I've played for longer or more times, but Diablo 2 had a certain hold on me. I'd constantly do "just one more Baal rush", or "one more key rush, so maybe I can do an Uber event".
I don't think I was addicted per say, since it didn't affect my daily life much, but it definitely kept me from trying out other games.

I can definitely see how Pokemon can become addictive. They're fun games, while their mechanics are complex enough to where you can spends years and still not manage to create the perfect team.

For Fallout I can see the modding aspect being more addictive. I know I become a bit obsessed by this part, but mostly for Oblivion/Skyrim.

I've never played the Halo games. Is it the multiplayer?

@alyx

Yeah, was for me. I played a shit load of the matchmaking and was obsessed with getting better at it
@alyx Gurumin since it's the only game I finished multiple times, PC & emulated PSP; in normal, easy & hard to farm suits... insane(/pleasure pre translation?) is 1-hit KO so that's as far as I got if I recall correctly.
@alyx I never put a lot of hours into games but if I had to say, it's probably Morrowind. Years ago on summer break I had nothing to do and installed it, I think I must have been playing it the entire summer break daily for around eight hours a day.

@alyx Factorio. I didn’t play it for long, probably a week at most. But holy fuck it actually consumed my life. I saw the conveyer belt patterns on everything. It was crazy.

@emilis
I bet you never looked at escalators the same way ever since.

P.S. I just got a weird sense of deja vu.

@alyx Oh not really. It was just crazy going outside and seeing the conveyer belt pattern still going if I looked at any close object like the bricks on a wall because it was so burned into my brain. I didn’t even finish the game tho lol.

@emilis @alyx Space Station 13 did something similar to me years back. I'd play it for hours, go to sleep, dream of running around those corridors being chased by Security after hacking into the captain's office to steal his spare hat and laser gun.

Also, murderous clowns.

@alyx It would be the Operation Flashpoint and Arma series for me. The mix of slow and fast gameplay, the ultimate PvE experience that can scale with the number of players.

As a player you can look for a group that fits your playstyle. As a mission maker you can do wat you want. As a modder or a scripter you can do everything you want and do something with that creativity.
