Doesn't matter what he was. Mods than enable functionality built into the game are the most basic shit. If this Middle East thing is true, admins should have checked what the mod actually does and at most asked for a more accurate title/description for the mod, and then direct their anger towards Sony.

The controversy was already stupid to begin with, because of simple freedom of speech. But now it went beyond retarded, because they're not even accusing the right people of homophobia.
