The cell radio in my phone is shot, I need a new phone

@pasture
Wait.. what?! You mean the radio that's responsible for making actual calls? I've NEVER heard that happening.

@alyx my phone will just drop cell connection for 2 or 3 minutes randomly and come back every half hour or so. Destroys my battery also. Ruling out software issue because it just started last week
@pasture @alyx the network in that area may have dropped support for some bands that your phone prefers

It's technically possible that it's just a fault in the local area, but I'm assuming Pasture isn't a shut in, and tried to use the phone in other places around town.

@alyx @pasture i had this happen to me with an older phone, t-mobile dropped support for some 4g bands that my phone relied on (nationwide across their whole network) and it caused very poor connectivity everwhere

had to get a new phone eventually. but that was a fairly old phone, samsung s4 and only supported a handful of 4g/LTE bands.

current 1+6 phone supports like 20 4g/LTE bands
@alyx @pasture there are android settings in developer mode where you can actually look up this info. see which bands your phone supports, make sure it's set to automatic, and cross check that against the supported bands in the network.
