@lamp pedophilic disorder isn't even diagnosed if it doesn't cause distress. pedophilia in general is incredibly sensationalized/weaponized and i would consider that a bad thing because when it gets like that, i believe it CAN cause distress. people get in their own head about it and start to freak out, maybe get depressed or do something rash. especially if there is something like childhood trauma that caused someone to think this way, or other mental issues.
even though many of my views are controversial (the circle i'm visiting just changes which ones are), i try my best to be as level-headed as possible and not let sensationalism get to me if i can help it. i feel like people wanting to kill/maim or otherwise harshly punish pedophiles are very similar to say, people who want to punch nazis or remove their rights for saying things they disagree with. two sides of the same coin. beliefs and thoughts should not be met with actions, they should be met with civilized debate, study, and philosophy.
killing or torturing someone who has technically done nothing wrong (and may have just had wrong done to them) is highly unethical and heartless from my point of view.
it's highly hypocritical when it is coming from people who advocate for free speech and to be left the fuck alone because they aren't doing anything harmful. you know that people who disagree with what you have to say would strip you of your rights (or worse) in an instant if they could, so why is it okay to do that to others?
two relevant quotes below:
@Hoss @beardalaxy @Mackiavelli13 Is it really like rabies though? If it's merely the passive ability to get sexually aroused, I'd think it be no harder to manage than sexual attraction to adults.
I've only known one pedophile, whom said they have a "line" and only consumed lolicon content. They seemed like a perfectly fine person, but seemed to be under tension of the social stigma. I don't know them anymore, but are you saying there's a good chance they might cause harm in the future?
@Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss that's just eugenics, which i believe is highly unethical. it's hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that some people would rather have people be killed for no more than thoughts. you are willing people to escalate those thoughts with your rhetoric. you want to believe so much that these people are going to be horrible enough to actually harm a child so that you can demonize them, rather than offering some help and preventing that from occurring. it's highly irrational.
@Hoss @Mackiavelli13 @lamp if you went to a therapist and said "i'm a pedophile" and they asked if you were under distress or causing other people distress, then you were just like "nah, some guy told me to come to therapy because i'm attracted to children, but i don't think i'm gonna' do anything about it and it doesn't affect my life at all," they'd probably just send you home and wonder why you were there in the first place. it isn't a problem unless it causes problems.
although i will agree that i get annoyed when people make the fact that they are a pedophile their whole personality, much like gay people who do that or people putting their pronouns in their bio. that behavior is kind of degenerate, i wish people would just act like human beings instead of caricatures. i do think that a lot of the time it's virtue signaling of sorts.
@Immahnoob @Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss @LoliHat the whole "doing it to spite you" is like Ethical Pedophile on here lol. literally does it just to piss people off and god dammit it works. i don't think he's even actually a pedophile, just a shitposter.
@Mackiavelli13 @LoliHat @lamp @Immahnoob @Hoss my time to be an absolute retard was back in middle and high school. seriously, i fucking hate who i was back then. honestly, if anything, "watching drawings" has helped me far more than it ever hurt me. i log on to fedi and see anime asses all over the timeline and instead of having my hypersexuality (i have mini bipolar basically) affect me in my daily life it has toned down a lot because of that. sex isn't always on my mind to the point of doing stupid shit like it used to be. i feel really comfortable with myself and really healthy as opposed to back then when i was forced to hide and suppress it all and it would get me into trouble often.
@LoliHat @Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss @Immahnoob yeah, they're supposed to be. i just was in no condition to be there. for me it turned out to be the opposite: only when one experiences being a fool can they truly know how to play life straight.
i learned the hard way, which hopefully means i can extend that toward my children. my parents, i know they cared about me, but they just had no idea what they were doing and their definition of "caring" didn't line up to what i actually needed to succeed. especially my father (my mother was just depressed for my entire childhood and was pretty passive about everything) wanted me to be his version of successful, and i was pushed that way despite not wanting it and it really fucked me up. my actions are my own, of course, but seeing that and realizing it, i hope i can not just provide for my children physically like my parents did, but emotionally too. my brother and sister have similar thoughts on that and went through some of the same stuff that i did.
@Immahnoob @Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss @LoliHat basically, don't be a jackass and just be a good person, is kind of how i interpret it. if you know how to be a good person, then you know when it is appropriate to be a bit of a jackass. if you were a jackass for a long time, you know how to avoid doing things that a jackass would and be a good person instead. that's the best way i can describe it with 3am brain lol.
@LoliHat @Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss @Immahnoob i think i've been doing a pretty good job so far. just sticking as true to myself as i can instead of trying to be someone i'm not has helped me so much. i ain't perfect but nobody is, and i can relish in that a bit :) the people that actually matter to me respect that, and i think the more aware you are of yourself, the easier it is to be the best version of yourself.
@LoliHat @Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss @Immahnoob i think people seem to like me. i know i can be a bit annoying at times when i talk people's ears off but i can't help it xD i like being around good people and socializing. other than that i think i'm relatively easy to get along with, i've got IRL friends from a lot of different walks of life and as long as we all have respect for each other it works out.
it's a lot easier to hate someone on the internet though because they have one opinion you don't like lol, so i'm sure there are plenty of people that don't like me for one reason or another but i don't really care, it's not worth worrying over.
I'm not as bad as you to "hate" who I was back then. But I do regret that I simply didn't trudge through my procrastination and lack of will (regarding shit that mattered) to actually do something worthwhile with my time.
Even gaming professionally would have been fine, but I just didn't try hard enough.
