@Mr_NutterButter I think a good thing to do with a magic system is to make sure that the people in the world you create don't actually know the full extent of it, nor does the player/reader.

There are different tiers of knowledge of my magic system, both in-world and irl. To most people IRL it will probably be just "you have mp and once you run out you need to recharge it one way or another" for a very long time. Only a few people know it to the greatest extent I was willing to reveal to them.

Likewise, most people in-game think it's just a thing that some people can do, for various reasons. Some people think that anyone who does it that isn't affiliated with the church are blasphemous. Some think that the magic ability comes from god, some think it comes from inherently magical creatures that bestow it upon humans specifically, some may even believe in both. Nobody has all the answers, even if they believe they do. The actual way magic works is long forgotten.

I'd say there are two characters with vast knowledge on how magic works. They're not 100% clued in. One is a very powerful magician, and the other is a very influential individual. Both keep their knowledge secret for different reasons. I will keep who they are secret as well ;)

One day there will be a sequel to my game that explains a little bit more of how magic works. The third game will go a lot more in depth. It's a slow burn. A very slow burn. But I think it will help build mystique and certain revelations will be cool to see unfold.

I already have this planned out so far in advance because of D&D btw lol. I've run a sequel campaign to my video game and the sequel to that one as well.
