@rlier23 I ate too much of it at once and got sick
@rlier23 I love zelda and I haven't wanted anything to do with it since before I forced myself to beat the game
@PonyPanda @rlier23 I was trying to 100% it but at a certain point I got really burnt out and didn't even want to play it anymore so I forced myself to finish up the game. There's too much stuff in the game and I tried to "eat it" too fast.
I got about 2/3 of the way done with the shrines, maybe half the light roots, no idea on the quests but I did a lot of them. Finished all the temples.
@PonyPanda @rlier23 I 100%d botw (minus every single korok seed) and had a good time doing it. So I figured it would be the same for TotK. It wasn't. There's a lot more game there.
@PonyPanda @rlier23 i liked the shrines about as much as i liked them in botw i'd wager. i did like how a lot of them actually more or less took place in the overworld.
it was just the amount of stuff in general, not necessarily just the shrines. the side quests, the treasure maps, there's literally always something to go do even if you're already doing something else. eventually it went from "holy shit this is awesome" to "holy shit this is overwhelming."
the depths were really cool for the first bit when i was still getting acquainted with them, but then sort of fell apart when i realized i was just walking around in a vast, empty, dark world. nowhere near as interesting as hyrule or the sky after the first 10 hours or so. what's this? another chest that has a shitty 1 armor item that just looks cool? and i had to defeat 10 lynels in a row to get it or some shit? yeah, not worth it.
i also didn't like the story much, or how the puppet/phantom zelda story played out in regards to the world and the NPCs. i thought it seemed really hacked together and not integrated very well. botw's story and overall atmosphere was much, much better, although i don't think i'd be able to go back and play it because the gameplay of totk is vastly improved.
i started out thinking the game was pretty much perfect but the longer i played it the more the magic wore off for me, i guess. and when the magic wore off, that's when i realized just how much shit was in the game and i stopped playing it for a bit. had to force myself to finish it.
@micropenis @rlier23 @PonyPanda compensation, which seems to be something you would know about too.
@micropenis @rlier23 @PonyPanda good i hope they never do
TotK had more "freebie" shrines with Rauru's blessing though they were usually for doing shrine quests. TotK also had more controlled shrines where you knew you were getting one bonus treasure chest. There also wasn't waggle puzzles or the Mirro Shaz Shrine.
Do you think that the shrines were better but the overworld exploration was lacking?
