people are saying they changed ciri's face in this "behind the scenes" video of the cinematic trailer. idk to me it looks exactly the same but with different lighting conditions and angles. what do you guys think?

tbh i don't have a problem with how she looked at all to begin with but maybe i'm in the minority there. if there were ever the case for a more rugged looking woman in a video game it would probably be a witcher, or whatever the fuck ciri is.

@beardalaxy You most likely 100% correct. Cinematic used REALLY hard lighting, that makes everyone looks more masculine. (one of the reasons, why everyone looks 10 years older in night clubs :D)

But, when you use an ambient light, you literally cannot see shadows, that make the wrinkles visible to begin with.

@LukeAlmighty this is also an issue with modern graphics in general, isn't it? With older games, with less realistic graphics, you could make a pretty woman and it would never look bad because the lighting, skin textures, models, animations, etc. weren't so realistic. Everything was either highly stylized or was feigning realism in a stylized way, whereas now graphics are extremely high fidelity and that comes with all the negatives of real life circumstances.

Perhaps the issue falls more on whoever is directing scenes, where they're not getting the lighting or angles quite right, instead of the model and texture artists. At this point, with such high fidelity, they should be treating it like they are directing actual actors on an actual set and trying to make the shot always flattering and appealing to look at (unless they are trying to make it look bad for the purpose of the scene of course). Even a lot of the "found footage" kinds of movies will pay close attention to those sorts of things.

@beardalaxy
Yeah. I get it, our "immune system" was attacked so many times in last 10 years, that we have developed an allergy to anything, that isn't pure fan service. But this case was a 2nd case, where I really felt like the lefties who claim we are just right wing SJWs. (Obviously, that is still insanely far from being true)

But also, the pursuit of realistic lighting in games is just a horrible idea. That much should have been obvious, yet people still don't seem to get it.

@beardalaxy Wouldn't it be amazing if just one big developer didn't go full pride parade on a game?
