Holy shit..... Hax$ just passed away. He jumped in front of a train and lost his leg, which became infected. Died in the hospital. Hax fucking money. One of the greatest Melee players ever.
He crashed out over another top player (Leffen) for a bit and was permanently banned from the Smash scene for it. Eventually, he cooled down and apologized several times, but was never let back by the TOs despite large public support. There was a lot of vitriol on both sides and nothing was ever done about anything Leffen said.
Hax was a highly technical player and destroyed his hands because of it, which led him to create an arcade-style controller for Smash. He also pushed for mods to help clean up some issues with Melee and was always forward-thinking with Melee's best interests in mind. Just trying to keep the game alive and fun for as long as possible.
I always thought his ban was unnecessary and extreme. If I still had my old Twitter or Facebook accounts you'd see plenty of "FREE HAX$" posts from years and years ago. I bet there are some floating around in YouTube comments.
God bless Hax's family right now. This is horrible.
@beardalaxy
Looks like a great dude. What a waste.
@beardalaxy
I cannot imagine being banned from conventions for this exact reason.
@Hephaestic I ran charity tournaments from 2015-2019. Less and less people wanted to come because they didn't earn any money for winning. Eventually it was just me and a few other people just playing to hang out and i had experienced a lot of toxicity so I detached from the community entirely. Then the whole scandal with tons of players getting canceled or whatever for being weird sex creeps came out and I felt totally justified. The whole scene is pretty bad and I don't see it ever getting better unless someone manages to fork it somehow. I was kind of trying to do that from the beginning but it didn't really turn out.
@inTrax @Hephaestic i actually think that hax's push for flat screens instead of CRTs while using mods to lower input latency to that of a CRT (or sometimes even lower) was a fantastic idea and the community was way too stubborn to change. plus, nintendo wanted to fuck everyone in the ass all the time for slightly modifying shit instead of capitalizing on it. i think he did some fantastic work with the boxx as well and it really launched a controller revolution.
