@mitchconner @emma @Hoss the game key card thing at least won't apply to first party games. it's only third parties that will be using it. apparently it's like $20-$25 for a cartridge because they've gotta be really fast and the way their architecture is, 64gb is the lowest storage capacity and the only one nintendo will be producing.
i honestly think that without the game key cards, all these third parties would just be doing code in a box or purely digital anyway. so at the very least, it IS better than a one-time-use code. still not ideal but i think nintendo is probably trying to make the most out of an awkward situation.
i pre-ordered a switch 2, i'm a mario kart fiend so i needed it lmao.

>Video games are the first fully digital medium the second people realize this and stop obsessing over the delivery method and realize this fact we can push for drm free games on open platforms.
They'll find nice workarounds. Remember how much of a win DRM free music was when Apple finally caved? Remember when they replaced it with streaming which had lower payouts AND "pulled from streaming?" Or how Steam was "good enough" for the normie masses.
That's not counting that new hardware can cost as much as a used Altima.
@KaiserKitty @beardalaxy @mitchconner @emma @Hoss The other problem is, on the open platform it's great for single player games. For MP games? You'd better hope it's from a dev who gives two shits and a fuck and is patching those pesky RCE bugs. Just look at Activision and how they could care less if playing a 10 year old game of theirs on the PC leaves you wide open to some serious RCE exploits (which don't happen on Xbox/PS, the worst that happens is some skid DDoSes you or uses a hard freeze exploit)
@sendpaws @KaiserKitty @mitchconner @emma @Hoss yeah I wanted to get back to playing blops 3 but apparently that's all over the place unless you use a specific mod, but only people with the mod can play each other and there's no matchmaking.
@beardalaxy @KaiserKitty @mitchconner @emma @Hoss you have to turn off the password and uncheck friends only iirc

@beardalaxy @KaiserKitty @mitchconner @emma @Hoss yeah i just did that i'm on bo3 rn on steam :)
@mitchconner @emma @Hoss as far as i can tell, the OS is exactly the same. but it could theoretically be a different OS with a switch 1 skin over it.
@mitchconner @emma @Hoss i have no doubt in my mind that the modding community will be working overtime to try and get shit cracked on the switch 2.
@mitchconner @beardalaxy @emma @Hoss the switch 1 modchip relied on a hardware exploit and while microsoft fixed this both with new hardware designs (which unfortunately for them were at the tail end) and by making the xbox one hardware more robust against hardware attacks, nintendo's strategy is to just throw legal at the problem.
Maybe the Switch 2 will have protections against hardware exploits if they were smart because Microsoft learned from the RGH and Kamikaze hacks that people will do anything and literally anything for free games including drilling holes in chips.
@beardalaxy @Hoss @emma as long as it's not an efuse blowout like on the 360...(this is what ms did to XDKs that were caught connecting to partnernet when they were telling authorized devs "do not connect" before they learned to whitelist and before kids began to disable the ability to blow the efuses)
@Hoss @beardalaxy @emma Let 's just give the hackers enough time, paper clips, tweezers and aluminum foil and they will crack open the switch 2
@EdBoatConnoisseur @Hoss @beardalaxy @emma Give me 2 seconds and i will crack open that switch 2 real good
@XaetaCore @Hoss @beardalaxy @emma i did not mean nut inside the swtich 2
@beardalaxy @emma the last frontier of gaming from the before times will be cs 1.6 servers with 4000 annoying sound/visual mods referencing memes from another language and some third worlder saying slurs in a foreign language on the mic
