@rlier23 I'm having a fun time with it and I will continue to have a fun time with it
@rlier23 I don't think the switch 2 itself is overpriced either, I think they hit the mark perfectly. They definitely would have had to cut down on features/power to make it cheaper. Mario Kart World is overpriced, but I got the bundle so I think it's definitely worth what I paid for it. We'll have to see if any future $80 games are worth buying for me or if I just wait to buy them used.
long
@rlier23 every company is already trying to extract as much money from their audience as possible with microtransactions, letting people play three days early if the pay more, etc. and while they do this, their games are struggling hard because the games themselves suck ass. tons of studio closures and layoffs over this kind of stuff. if they get even MORE greedy about it without improving the quality of their games, then you'll see them start to tank even more and honestly good riddance at that point.
i will 100% pay $80 or potentially even more for a game that i really want that i think will offer me great quality and a lot of playtime. the largest MMO, FFXIV, requires $150+ just for the subscription every year lol. tons of people are clearly very fine paying that much. i put *tons* of money into PSO2 over the course of 4 years because I really enjoyed it. i have purchased lots of deluxe editions for games i really cared about that were $80-$100. if that's not where you want to put your disposable income that's totally fine, but i definitely think it is reasonable for a game to cost $80 IF and only IF it has enough in it to justify the price. which, to be clear, Mario Kart World definitely DOES NOT. i'm only fine with what it offers because i got it in the bundle.
if nintendo does continue down the path of pushing out $80 games that really do not justify the price point, then i won't buy them and a lot of other people probably won't either. if kirby air riders comes out and it's $80 but it has like 5 different city trial maps and double the events and double the race courses as the original game, i think that'd be worth it. if it's basically the first game but in 4K then hell no.
as far as the console goes, the switch 2 is priced right in line with where it should be. people have been begging for nintendo to go more towards power for a long time, even straight up wanting a higher powered switch like a switch pro or something. but apparently it's an issue now that it is 1. cheaper than the competition and 2. priced $50 more than the original when accounting for inflation.
people are mad at nintendo about the console price when i think the main thing they should be mad at is the economy in general and why it got so bad. prices have inflated so much so quickly that $450 seems like such a huge jump between the consoles when in reality it isn't, unfortunately.
@beardalaxy and yet here you are, posting cope online instead of playing switch 2
mobile gaming is also the most popular and profitable, doesn't make it less of predatory shit
@tomie i'm not going to be playing it at all hours of the day every day lol
@beardalaxy see, a new console is out and you don't dedicate all of your free non-adulting time playing it, that's telling
@tomie well I have like 10 other things I like doing too lol
@get it did. Switch 1 sold more than the Wii did over the course of its life.
@get nah i believe it 100%, nintendo put so much stock out that the console wasn't even really scalped. they had a really good stockpile this time. the wii had some pretty bad supply issues iirc. we couldn't get one for like a year.
@beardalaxy Today I learned the Switch 2 was released.
@beardalaxy yeah, the masses love their slop. It's why Pokémon is the most successful multimedia franchise ever despite sucking ass since Gen 5 and why the MCU is still up. In a decade they will be charging 200$ for a single game and the masses will keep on eating because it has Master Chief or Mario on the cover
They have done it before and they Will do it again, nothing new under the sun
