original game, sequel, sequel, sequel, sequel.

there really needed to be more variation in this list.

no nomination for silent hill f? dk bananza? no mario kart world? all of these games have amazing art direction, regardless of what you think about the games in general.

@beardalaxy >complains about sequels of newer games making the list
>wants mario kart 213 on it
what

@WandererUber the point of complaining about sequels is that they all have the exact same art direction as the previous game. mario kart world is a sequel but it's in a different art style.

@beardalaxy @WandererUber I see what you mean but tbf Silksong's visuals are a substantial improvement over Hollow Knight's and insanely impressive (IMO) for a small team.
It's also true that Mario Kart World is in many ways a big step up over 8 in terms of visuals, the characters and their animations look amazing. But it's on the new Nintendo and they made some asinine decisions about both ranked and single player gameplay structure so people will chimp out if you praise anything about it.

@LittleTom @WandererUber i really hate how the online for mario kart world turned out, and the open world is empty and gay. 24 player races may have been a mistake. the art is awesome though, i love the way the game feels to play, a lot of the courses are so well made (which is why online feels so bad since you never get to play them), and the soundtrack is full of remixes but there are so many of them and they're so good.

chimping out about video games seems to be the default these days it seems...

@beardalaxy @WandererUber The mechanics and most courses are crazy good. They just need to let people play them as much as they want. And yeah some tracks feel balanced for 24 players, a lot of them don't...but I will say coming from 100 hours in Sonic Crossworlds I can't complain about overly chaotic kart racing too much.

@LittleTom @WandererUber i only played the demo for crossworlds but it seemed way more chaotic while also feeling way more fair. they balanced it a lot better. i was in the lead pretty often and when i got there it didn't feel hard to keep the lead over some bullshit. and if i do drop i don't drop to 15th place, i only drop to like 3rd max.

@beardalaxy @WandererUber I think you might be surprised how insane the items can feel when you're in a lobby of players who have gotten used to utilizing them correctly. It's why the number 1 meta loadout in the game is built around being completely invincible for as much of the race as possible (at the cost of being a pain in the ass to use in other ways). But I love the game, it's really good.

@beardalaxy @LittleTom @WandererUber >chimping out about video games seems to be the default these days it seems...

I mean, that's because video games aren't good anymore and the devs love to use their players as guinea pigs (see: CoD/AAA games and SBMM/EOMM)

@LittleTom @beardalaxy @WandererUber Look, you can't see the numbers except on Steam and all the numbers are from THREE GAMES in 1 launcher, but trust us bro. BO7 is doing well.

@sendpaws @LittleTom @WandererUber call of duty does have a significantly larger player base on console though, that is true. the type of person playing call of duty now is usually not the kind of person who is going to buy a pc.

@beardalaxy @LittleTom @WandererUber The thing with CoD is they keep it last gen as well on purpose to boost sales numbers in the same way sports games are, and the funny thing is some of those already dropped last gen consoles.

@sendpaws @beardalaxy @LittleTom >EOMM
I knew they were doing this, for years, but it's good it finally has a name and that they admit it

@sendpaws @LittleTom @WandererUber there is a lot of absolute slop, that's for sure. but there are also a lot of actually pretty good games that just have like 1 or 2 things wrong with them but people latch onto those things and all the sudden the entire game is complete trash. usually these people aren't even playing the games either they're just getting their opinion from somebody else, whether it is a complete rando on the internet or some content creator that only ever really gets mad at shit.

i think it's because it's addicting and cool to be mad at things.

@beardalaxy @LittleTom @WandererUber oh 100% for sure, I genuinely feel the shift from "10/10 GOTY" journalists to the Pissed Jose style of reviewer made shit get worse.

You'll never see the Act Man ever develop his own sick FPS but you'll see him hate play CoD yearly after telling you guys he's done with the series.

@beardalaxy @sendpaws @LittleTom @WandererUber > i think it's because it's addicting and cool to be mad at things.

Yeah. There’s a lot wrong with modern gaming to be sure but it must be dreadfully boring to be so negative all the time.
