@matrix would you say you're... triggered by it? :^)
@submana I'm just baffled by the sheer retardation
@matrix The amount of 14 year olds in twitch streamer discords that unironically think the Holocaust didn't happen is staggering, I'm honestly inclined to believe this person lol
@submana Ever heard of trolling?
@matrix I hope you aren't assuming I take edgy shitposting as an actual representation of someone's viewpoint, yikes I'm not *that* retarded
@submana
Yes I am, because I've been there and done that.
She also never mentioned holocaust denial etc in that thread, only jokes. She never mentioned what her son believes, only what he finds funny.
Yes, the 14 year olds who believe the holocaust didn't happen exist, however I've never seen any evidence of it being wide spread or this "memes lead to X" actually happening.
@matrix For sure its not an undebatable fact that meme culture is "Alt RIghT prOPagANda", but its a relatively plausible hypothesis in my opinion.
Even if you don't agree, its not like she's calling for mass censorship in these tweets or anything, she's just asking parents to say "hey bud just making sure you know the holocaust actually happened yeah" as a precaution.
Surely that's not too wild?
@matrix Just clarifying myself, I don't think at all that memes turn kids into Nazis, I just think its possible that Nazis would, at some point, probably try to use memes as a way to get people on board.
@submana
Yes that's probably true in some capacity, but outside of shoty anecdotes I've never seen any proof of it happening on a significant scale or that it's being done through jokes. It's also something not unique to Nazism.
The way I interpret it, she isn't just asking parents to say "hey bud just making sure you know the holocaust actually happened yeah", but to actively police their child.
@matrix Internet culture on a broader scale than just memes has indisputably influenced several American mass shooters so far, so I don't think its that much of a stretch anymore. Too many idiots online on nu-/b/ who are too stupid to recognise irony, which is unfortunate, because people ruin fun things.
I don't entirely agree she's advocating for policing anything, just stalking the public end of their child's feeds. If she wants to monitor messages that's a bit fucked though.
@ChristiJunior @matrix Reach just a little harder so you can jerk me off
@ChristiJunior @matrix Imo if (arguably) mentally sound adults can be convinced that vaccines are poison and the earth is flat, you can probably convince a child (born 70+ years too late to experience it) that the holocaust didn't happen
Why *would* banning holocaust denial cause people to doubt it happened? Why would the government lie about it? What benefit does that provide?
@ChristiJunior @matrix Actually no I want to bite, what do you mean by Germany "chimping out 75 years ago"?
@deadheat @matrix Ah, I see! Thanks for letting me know.
I haven't really watched much of Ice Poseidon's content, but looking further that does seem like a good example.
I'm not trying to fearmonger though, I don't think any popular Twitch streamer advocates for or intentionally harbours any kind of hate speech on any of their platforms, but some of their communities are large and difficult to moderate.
@matrix congratulations, you're a terrible parent and you tried to indoctrinate your child into a progressive cult and instead of admitting your faults, you will look to literally anything else!
