I think the Japanese might have been woke on the Chinese question well before anyone else. Pretty sure they had a few wars with each other.

And yet japan doesn't seem to hate USA for some reason. Or maybe they're playing the long game, and are pretending to like Americans to catch them off guard when they finally send in their Little Waifu nuke.
