Does the force with which you throw a dice or the distance it travels have an effect on the probability of getting certain numbers?

@tuxcrafting
I dunno. I should test it, but I don't think human hands are good enough for it.

@matrix if the dice is perfectly equally weighted on all sides and the initial state is random, there's definitely no way to force a specific number to happen

@tuxcrafting
I just meant increase possibility on some numbers, but the most likely answer is that the dice I have are just shit.

@matrix it can. are we talking regulation casino dice or just random ol d6? cause the number of pips can change the weight of a die and the bevelled edges have impefections, so certain die are more prone to certain results and impact force might contribute a little.

@icedquinn
Just regular d6 from a board game. I tried it with a wooden one which has the dots painted on and a plastic one which has the dots cut out. I haven't counted it, but it was easier with both of them to get a 5 or 6 if I threw them with very little force and they traveled only few cms.

@matrix
idk, but it's because of this question basically that i've banned physics experts from playing board games in my house
stay mad, you cheating geniuses

@matrix Yes but you'd have to be incredibly precise, and basically do it the exact same way every time. Like exact face on your palm when you start, exact same hand movements, and exact same force hitting the surface. Even then stuff like air resistance could fuck it up, I highly doubt anyone's managed to do it desu

@matrix My sister works in casino and she said, that it's possible to throw certain number (or better group of numbers) on roulette. So I'd say that it's certainly possible with dice, you just have to have the same starting position every time.
