@crunklord420 1000% cpu usage just to encode one, 300% cpu usage to decode if your gpu doesn't do decoding of it
@MischievousTomato @matrix I always tell everyone to use av1an + SVT-AV1 to encode faster.

@MischievousTomato
It trades blows in gaming but gets beaten in productivity. Pretty impressive I must say.

@MischievousTomato @matrix @crunklord420 almost like newer iterations of computer hardware have better performance sometimes. crazy!
it's something rather rare, right? Very impressive.
iirc those were really plagued with issues were they not?

@MischievousTomato @matrix @crunklord420
Possibly, my 2 Ryzen CPUs are doing fine. (I've got another box with a Ryzen 5 3500G)

@MischievousTomato @matrix @crunklord420
I can't afford a $3k laptop sorry. Also, I'm not a fan of MacOS's windowing (doesn't snap windows to half screen) and file explorer (doesn't snap file icons to a grid, so they look randomly scattered). But if it ran Loonix with GPU acceleration I absolutely would.
> I can't afford a $3k laptop sorry.
then start working
> he prefers loonix
it's better that you don't get a macbook then, macOS actually works unlike linux where you have to fight the computer
@MischievousTomato @matrix @crunklord420
If the fixed the windowing and file explorer and lowered the price by half I would.
>lowered the price by half
and letting normals use it? ew & yikers my dude
> If the fixed the windowing and file explorer
cant apps fix that? i remember hearing that that was the case
@tard @matrix @crunklord420 @MischievousTomato the air is only like 1k, if you look at the specs of the pro the 3k is probably reasonable its like 10-core cpu and 32 core gpu
@travis @matrix @crunklord420 @MischievousTomato
Yes, but I can't buy the air now after seeing a review for the pros.
@tard @matrix @crunklord420 @MischievousTomato i bought my air before the pro came out ;_;

The enjoyment factor on macos and m1 has slowly worn off though because ive had to use vms a lot lately, im about at 50/50 use m1 vs my linux laptop was at 90/10 use when i first got it
the performance + battery life is worth it imo, but i want to get the air because of it being portable, light and fanless
And also a lot cheaper. You really need to be a dev, content creator, gamer, or something else that's actually going to use that much horsepower if you want to justify the purchase. For most people the Air is fine.
Imo the air is so good you can do developer work, content creation and even some gayming.
Apple really needs to start working on getting more and more people to develop natively for their cpus so shit gets even better.
@MischievousTomato @matrix @dave @crunklord420 @tard its pretty good, one downside is the hardware level x86 emulation can only be used from user space, so its qemu doing software emulation if you want to run an x86 vm, still performs pretty ok, ive been able to run a full desktop with it. Its surprisingly performant for what on paper looks like low specs, unless i need to run like 3 x86 vms for some lab junk its doesnt really fall short.
@dave @matrix @crunklord420 @travis @MischievousTomato
Should I wait for the 3 nm M2 Airs, since it has been more than a year?
They'll only be marginally better, it's not like the old days when jumping a process node gave you a massive performance advantage. Nowadays it's only incremental.
