@matrix Yeah I used to like HP because they were the most headache free printer. I got a Canon I was very happy with. I bought it in like 2020 and it'd still even print colour if a colour was out. It probably wouldn't look right but it'd let you do it. Sadly it died in a power surge. Well enough as what I really need is a laser printer.
@sjw @matrix I use a Brother HL-1210W monochrome lazor printer for large volume office prints and a Canon TS305 inkjet for when I need colour or fancy (like for business letters etc.). Brother is - amazingly - more of a hassle to maintain since its filter binaries are proprietary and 32bit only even if I save a lot on toners. Canon did good with cnijfilter2 tbh
@takao @matrix yeah Canon is now the brand I recommend. Very good experience and decently well built.
@sjw @matrix @takao their MRI scanners are real nice too, way better upkeep than Siemens
@Paultron @matrix @takao I mean a German company named after cum isn't setting a very high bar...
@sjw @matrix @takao they're a good company but are overpriced and own the market through a huge and entrenched institutional marketing and sales team touring like .5% performance gains over the rest of the market for 50% more price
@sjw @matrix @takao if you pay me .13¢ a go ill draw whatever you want and take a photo of it with my phone im pretty much the best printer available on the free market tbh
@Lyx @matrix @Owl @Owl @takao 13/100 of a cent? I feel like you could at least charge 1¢ instead of 0.13¢
IF I WAS DAT NIGGA I'D HAVE STRAIGHT BROKE HIS ASS FOOL DEAD ASS I AIN'T JOKIN' CUH FUH DAT NIGGUH CUH, AWN MUH MAWMA :yotsuba_happy:
@sjw @matrix @Owl @Owl @takao oh no its 13¢ im just stupid. Here give me a second ill give you a free sample
@sjw @matrix I'm still cheating and injecting ink from a bottle into used ink cartridges though.

My unit keeps a FIFO buffer of a number of IDs for cartridges you already used and it will claim it's empty regardless of whether this used to be factually correct in the past, but you can bypass this easily (though the internal software will keep crying about it if you try to check the ink levels)

@sjw @matrix I can't seem to find a single project or even an independent company that's attempting to reduce all of the hassles of 2D printing. Is competition impossible?
@berkberkman @matrix Canon makes some decent ones.
They have good Linux drivers too.

@sjw The previous printer we had was an HP one and was pretty good. The current HP one we have is hot garbage. You need an account to use it and it constantly keeps disconnecting.

@matrix
I still think a morning McD coffee is worse.
It costs 10 times what it should. You get a plastic cover without asking, and if you want milk, you will get them in 5 separate plastic cups.

That is 6 different pieces of plastic, that were not needed, if only a 1 percent of common sense was applied.
