I bought an english version of a game on DLSite and it's just years old MTL so the text makes almost no sense :pepepains:

@matrix ah, that's doing it wrong. You gotta get the Japanese version and then use newer MTL. There used to be a tool that would run alongside an RPGMaker game and give streaming MTL from Google Translate, which was of course terrible. Modern tooling could make that much, much more convenient, with a separate subtitle section so you can even still see the Japanese, and with input to the AI to tell it replace a character's name with a friend's mother's name.

Right now people are making money off of batch-translating RPGMaker games, so tooling like that might lag a bit.

@apropos I know. I already MLTed two games. My laziness just got the better of me.

@matrix this stuff is so cheap and good now that dlsite'll probably make a move soon to do MTLs itself for everything, and at least offer its own translations alongside the old poetry that devs have done. So your purchase might still retroactively be improved.

The payment-card monopoly and censorship are a problem, but the same technology could get dlsite selling to new markets with looser restrictions, who knows.
@matrix although I still want dynamic translation because if that gets popular I'll be able to tell an AI to translate Theyglish to Engilsh for me
