How should people respond to the #Coronavirus?
How should the government react to the #Coronavirus?
@realcaseyrollins Shut down the whole economy.
@shampoobottle Why?
@shampoobottle Not for you if you die.
@SheChanges @shampoobottle Capitalism is the reason we're a better nation than others, and have been able to handle the #Coronavirus far better than them (so far). The second most important thing here is actually to make sure that capitalism lives on, and it seems likely to do so, so that's good news.
Goddammit to hell you're so wrong. Do you ever read or watch anything I send you in response? Are you fucking open-minded enough to learn any fucking thing?
How much history did you take in school? It seem to me that neoliberals love their ignorance and refuse to open their brains to anything that contradicts their indoctrination.
@SheChanges @shampoobottle I've taken enough enough history to know that Capitalism + Limited Unemployment Support makes for the best system.
I agree with what Wolff is saying, that giving away money to businesses isn't really a good solution, and endless cycles of debt are stupid. Where he goes wrong is by saying just because the government is being fiscally irresponsible, we must get rid of Capitalism. 4:03 is where he goes off the rails.
He claims that the "profit system fails". This is untrue; the real issue lies in the FDA putting roadblocks in the way of drug companies, forcing us to go longer without vaccines and life-saving medicine.
Capitalism only works when companies can compete, and the only time when Capitalism begins to really go south is when you have either monopolies, or all of the big players colluding together.
Now, where does this fit into pharma? Well, we already know of one treatment that's been showing a lot of promise, that's Hydroxychloroquine. Some people are starting to get it, that's a fact, but big government is preventing a lot of the people who need it from being able to get it and benefit from it.
This is why when Wolff says 4:41, he's completely wrong. "There has to be a Department of Public Health." Are you kidding me? More government is not the solution to problem caused by the government.
It only gets worse from here. At 5:09 he claims that being organized is the only way to judge a financial system. IDK who else genuinely believes this. You can have well-organized starving hordes, as is the case is Cuba and Venezuela. Yay. Good for them.
Now, perhaps this is parody. Perhaps Wolff is playing a character. He does, after all say that China and South Korea are doing "a very good job", in comparison to the United States. (While we know that South Korea is indeed doing a good job on this, only the exact opposite can be said for China.)
The Government is the mediator between the Public and the Private. And, it's been taken over by private interests who have demonized public services all of your life, so that's why you think that way. Well I grew up during the 1960's and 70's and it wasn't like this. You've been conned and hookwinked to believe that Capitalism is superior to any other system. It isn't.
First we had Master / Slave which was replaced by Lord / Serf. After the French Revolution, Capitalism promised to bring Liberty, Fraternity and Egalitarity. But, it didn't. All Capitalism did was establish Employer / Employee and it's still a ripoff. Capitalism has fought every step of the way any gains in benefits or wages to employees... every step of the way. People's lives got better despite Capitalism not because of it.
I'm happy you listened to Prof. Wolff, but all your other points are all neoliberal rich man excuses for their thievery. Do you make over 6 figures annually? If not, you're on the wrong team my friend.
LOL. Name one country freer than the United States of America.
"The Government is the mediator between the Public and the Private. And, it's been taken over by private interests who have demonized public services all of your life" My point exactly. A group powerful enough to be co-opted and weaponized against the masses should be stripped of its power, not given more.
Switzerland, the Cayman Islands, the Netherlands.
How are they freer than America?
Global Capitalism is attempting to turn this into a slave planet. All you have honey, is the illusion of freedom. You don't truly have any if you aren't a propertied elite prick. https://prepareforchange.net/2018/12/30/the-illusion-of-freedom/
Okay, here is something we can agree on, I think; globalism is a terrible thing that restricts freedom. We're seeing this now with China, sticking its tendrils into international corporations, restricting them and in some cases forcing tech companies to censor information, for fear of being kicked out of the country. "We are the world" makes for a fun song, but a sorry excuse for a society.
@SheChanges That's a bit ridiculous. In Switzerland you can literally go to jail for hate speech. @realcaseyrollins
@shampoobottle @SheChanges Yeah. I would've loved to hear her reasons as to why she thinks they're more free than America, but I don't think she's interesting in defending her claims tbh
@realcaseyrollins @shampoobottle @SheChanges yall still think freedom is a good thing??? yikes
Freedom isn't guaranteed by countries in this world.... just by money. It's an elite paradigm of domination (oppressors on top and oppressed on the bottom). There is no equal right and left. That's the illusion.
That's where rich motherfuckers incorporate to be free from taxes.
Is there literally no other reason for them being freer than America?
Absolute insanity. The EPA is going to let corporations pollute and kill the environment.
I'm not talking about the EPA. I'm talking about the FDA.
Here's what I sent my Congressional Rep yesterday. They are voting on this Corporate Thievery and calling it a stimulus package.
Rep. Kinzinger, I was a part of your Town Hall today and if you really honor the people of your district, you WILL NOT vote for this so called "stimulus" bill. All this money has absolutely nothing to do with the Pandemic... it's a money and power grab. You are my representative whether I like it or not and I demand that you put Working Class people before Corporate Pirates and Privateers. I did not hear from you more than 10% concern for people. Your 90% concern for the economy that dovetails with that of the President is a disgrace. And, the bi-partisan thievery on this issue is just as disgusting.
1. 425 Billion to the Fed to capitalize 4.25 Trillion in lending to large corporations without STRINGS (letting them off the hook for buying back their own stocks for a measly 6 months isn't good enough). And, you aren't even requiring these huge corporations who can afford it and don't need the money to ensure they do not layoff or fire any workers in exchange for that money and that's insane. And, even more insane is giving the oversight to Trump and Steve Minuichin THE FORECLOSURE KING with no transparency for 6 months!!! I'm just aghast. How can you even think of it? It's madness and it's not democracy. It's unpatriotic!!! Must I remind you that people are more important than money.
2. 75 Billion to bailout the Hotels, Cruise Ships and Airlines who made out like bandits for the last 10 years, but who apparently didn't save any money for unforeseen circumstances which is their own damn greedy fault. Again this money is without strings like requiring them to keep their employees on the payroll. They don't deserve this money or need it. You just pumped trillions into the FED for the last two weeks, so they have the ability to take out a 0% loan. What about the employees? The management of the airlines failed, so they don't deserve a bailout or a loan. Time to Nationalize the airlines instead of wasting 75 Billion. Lay them all off and put that 75 Billion into unemployment and stimulus money that goes straight to employees instead.
3. Over 360 Billion to small and medium sized businesses WITH STRINGS. The huge corporations can afford the strings, but small and medium sized businesses are the ones required to keep their employees on the payroll. How selfish and greedy is that? So, that means 50% of workers won't have their jobs protected. How is that helping the economy if people are going to be quarantined on and off for the next 18 months until a vaccine is developed?
4. How does making available a $4 Trillion dollar slush fund for corporations have anything whatsoever to do with money and resources to deal with the Pandemic??? Explain that to me, because I just don't see it.
5. Instead of focusing on rewarding a failing Capitalist Oligarchy, I want Nationalized Healthcare right NOW. China and South Korea have nationalized healthcare systems, they quarantined strictly for 2 months and now their numbers have flattened out and are going down. It's time to abolish private health insurance and provide Medicare for All to every citizen as a right. Due to failed neoliberal trickle-down policies for the last 40 years, the USA's healthcare has dropped to #37 among advanced nations. That's a huge disgrace for a system that costs the most. It's the best healthcare money can buy, but no money means no care. Pregnant women's mortality rate has dropped to that of a 3rd world shithole. This is not acceptable. I want Nationalized Healthcare NOW NOW NOW. Tell the boys at Big Pharma that the party's over. They had a nice run, but it's time for reform not for you and the millionaires and billionaires in Congress to sell out working people to these rich donors.
6. So, what do working class people get? Are wages lifted? Jobs protected? Unemployment raised and extended? NO. We are being offered a one time pittance of $1200 or maybe just $600. Thank you sir, may I have another??? Sorry, that's not going to keep the pitchforks at bay. And, you even want to means test this money, so that we need to process this all through the IRS which will delay payments for up to 4 months. People need money right now. Screw corporations. $2500 per month during the crisis for every adult with a Social Security # - just send it. Stop worrying that hard working Americans are all welfare queens who don't want to work and want to sit home. I'm worried about corporations taking trillions of public money. They are private. LET THEM FAIL! Time to reorganize and reform our economy based on the principles of Social Democracy again. FDR and Social Democracy made this country great. Ronald Reagan made this country a shit hole. And, I hope he burns in hell. American productivity got decoupled from wages for 40 years!!!!!! All the gains went to these corporations who are now begging for Socialism. The minimum wage hasn't been raised for 10 years. Get off your high horse, tell your donors to go away and make the pandemic and workers the priority in the next bill. KILL THIS BILL. It is absolutely unacceptable.
Oh and by the way, I don't watch Main Stream Media. I know it's all propaganda. I watch alternative media which keeps me much more informed than the folks asking questions in your town hall today.
Sincerely,
@realcaseyrollins @shampoobottle @realcaseyrollins @shampoobottle
4. IIRC this was to help our economy. It doesn't really have anything to do with the pandemic specifically, just to help "smooth the curve" of a possible recession.
5. It is sad; many people do not learn from history, how terrible Nationalized healthcare is, and just accept a lot of the propaganda they're fed, extolling its praises.
Nationalized Healthcare unequivocally leads to a lower quality of healthcare. Perhaps you can live with it, but those who will die while waiting in line will undeniably not.

(I know certain people are susceptible to raging when exposed to Steven Crowder; if you happen to be one of these people, skip ahead to 6:05, when he begins to provide a lot of proof as to why America has the best healthcare system in the world. It will save you grief.)
6. I think we all understand that working class people need money. This is why #Trump wants this whole quarrantine business to be over with, so that people will stop getting laid off and can continue working.
Good for you for not listening to the #MSM. BTW. Alternative media isn't always necessarily better just because it's independent, but it helps keep up the integrity of the reporting, I feel. I watch Tim Pool a lot, as far as watching news on #YouTube. (I do find it funny that you linked to a video, not by independent content creators or journalists, but by The Hill.)
I can't stand your arguments. They're all wrong. I'm afraid I'm going to have to send you to Block Island, cause your wasting my time with your stubborn ignorance.
@SheChanges @shampoobottle Ack. I was afraid you'd be triggered by Steven Crowder and his facts.
Oh well.
Oh is that where you're getting this bullshit from. He's a loudmouthed Men's Rights Activist and Neoliberal Slob. Enjoy...
Wait...which one of us is supposed to be open minded again?
I watched your clip from Thom Hartmann, even though I don't like him. I watch his show from time to time, but I loathe it.
It is a shame you cannot do the same with Steven Crowder.
P.S. nice use of logic and facts "He's a loudmouthed Men's Rights Activist and Neoliberal Slob" lol. Name calling, that's the way to go!
I've watched him a couple of times... when he pointed out transgender bullshit.
@SheChanges @shampoobottle What did you think of the points he brought up in the video I just linked?
LOLOL Shutting down the economy is exactly what should be done (temporarily) to halt spread of the infection and flatten out the curve of ICU cases. If Trump orders people to go back to work against the advice of medical professionals... IGNORE HIM. Do not go back to work. Yes, crash the economy so that we can reform and restructure it. DEATH TO NEOLIBERAL CAPITALISM FINALLY.
Yay!!!!!
