>The only official stance Nintendo has on ProjectM/+ and Slippi is that they won't "sponsor" tournaments that run them in an official manner.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Project M requires a legitimate copy of Brawl and Slippi is just a modified Dolphin emulator, so there is little that Nintendo can legally do in that regard. It's probably the same reason why they haven't gone after the Mother 3 fan translation project.
>I still don't get why tournaments even really feel the need for a "Nintendo" sponsor in the first place because they barely do anything. They don't contribute to prize pools, they don't provide set-ups... they just slap their stamp of approval on it.
Maybe a chance to meet Masahiro Sakurai in person or just to get more recognition. These tourneyfags are the most entitled and cultish pricks I know. That Hungrybox quote about how Melee is more than a video game, that it is a lifestyle should show how religiously devoted they are to a nearly 20 year old game that wasn't even meant to be competitive in the first place.
And I thought that my high school cross country team was cultish.
