@coolboymew @thenewoil Not just on the Internet, they fucked up everywhere. For a long time there was no way to block ads on any existing forms of media. TV, radio, theaters, you just had to take it. Advertisers abused the fuck out of this by slowly taking up more and more air time to the point where here in America 1/3rd of TV air time is ads, and probably 1/2 of radio. On top of that, advertisers were growing complacent, focusing more and more on how to use psychology to subconsciously imprint their product into our brain, instead of making an entertaining ad that people would want to watch. And now that people have the ability to remove ads altogether, they are. Making entertaining ads is the only way advertisers have a chance on the Internet, because they're certainly not going to win the arms race against adblock, not even Amazon is able to keep up if Twitch is anything to go by.
>"Entertaining ads? What the fuck are you smoking?"
It's possible, Internet Historian does it, user-made banner ads on 4chan can do it. How can advertising companies do it? I don't fuckin' know, that's not my job to figure out.
