You can make it more privacy respecting with a few configurations but to me, it's just a crypto-mining scam. I prefer LibreWolf.

- Auto updates by default. Settings can be disabled. You can even disable the whole crypto thing and the ad blocker.
It isn't a scam if it actually works. It is better than what most people use (firefox and chrome). Saying that stuff tracks you is easy. Pretty much every browser does according to most. While it is often the case Brave is still one of the browsers with the least trackers according to academic researchers. Web render engines are flawed to start with. You shouldn't use browser for "privacy".

None of them are truly independent from the Google/Mozilla duopoly with the only exception being PaleMoon (using a fork of Gecko) but Moonchild has been blacklisting add-ons for moralfag reasons among other things.
If you want privacy though, just get a rock with no functionality at all. Convenience is useful for most people. Security is important until you reach some point. I do find GNUnet interesting for example (new OSI model), but will companies adopt it?
Hackers likely won't go for someone with a generated password or something, unless they have a zeroday, which you barely can defend against anyways. Besides that, they likely will target Windows first.

Anyways, I do like the privacy mindset. I am just no longer that version of me anymore. Respect to the people who make everything so secure that they lose time and convenience though.
Just use what you enjoy. I am not saying no to free BAT personally. (I wouldn't trust the Tor function though)
The whitelist is because Facebook, etc., would be completely broken otherwise. And it's targeting privacy for normies, which obviously can't be as effective as someone fine tuning every setting themselves.
Everyone agrees uphold is shit, though being a U.S. company their hands are tied on a lot of the crypto stuff, KYC requirements and the like. Regardless, it'll be nice when on-chain tipping is implemented.
