When I was in Japan in 1993 there were Blockbuster video VHS rental vending machines. Literally predating Redbox by 13 years. Blockbuster probably didn't have to die, they had a successful business model that they apparently didn't expand.

@xianc78 bb went defunct in 2010. it was probably too little too late by then.

@xianc78 yes, that was in 2012 after its resources got bought by Dish Network. BB had actually secretly tried to implement set-top boxes before that but got scammed by a fake company.
