No, the sad thing is that they do care. Its just that they are fed the most innefective and idiotic solutions to combat those problems they care about.
Problem with environment being destroyed by rapacious consumerism? Just paint the petroleum companies green and make commercials have aluminum windmills on them, and the problem is solved.
Problem with cheap energy deficiency? Just build literally the most inneficcient and expensive generators possible and outlaw everything even remotely feasible.
Problem with racial strife/inequality? Just blatantly choose one side of the conflict and stir a jihad against the majority.
Problem with distrust and rebellion against the system? Just call them robots/foreign agents/evil. Any resistance real or imagined must be crushed totally and ruthlessly in an age of everyone individually having capabilities of videotaping and uploading any brutality to you do to them to the world.
Every single problem listed before is real, and could have logical solutions to it. But as if a curse, the leftists recognize the problem, and exasperate it worse that it would have been if it was ignored from the beginning.

This is what I hate about all of the "green" solutions.
Once you look at them, you will find that they are actually way worse, but with better PR.
Solar panels are un-recyclable nightmare. Wind mills are made of crazy materials, And neither of them produces shit, but nuclear produces so much energy, it it uncomperable.
And once we crack fusion, it will be the same way. But by that time, we will have government pushing new ground breaking technology of hamster wheels.
