@xianc78 @waweic Well that's mostly how IRC works, which started getting better for this in the last years with the integration of chat histories.
XMPP also allows ephemeral/anonymous accounts but it's used in rather specific scenarios like Meet Jitsi and converse.js with some traditional MUCs not allowing this kind of accounts (mostly because of spam).
shoutboxes aren't my preferred chat platforms as I can't idle on them and check back once in a while but other than that they are fine.
It's annoying enough that I tried once to make a bridge to my IRC client only to end up not doing it because web is rather painful to reuse.
