I honestly don't think the Funko Pop collector stereotype is even real, and I'm not defending Funko Pops. I hate them, but I mostly see them given away as prizes in arcades or bowling alleys. I never met anyone who is an avid collector of them.
@beardalaxy Well they are also given as gifts by clueless moms.
@xianc78 they're for normies tbh
@xianc78 I know a friend who goes to shops exclusively to look at and buy "rare", "special" or "Chase" Funko Pops worth $50-120. He knows people who try to sell them online en masse. It's so pathetic.
@CloakTheLurker I guess I'm wrong then. I thought it was something overblown. Like collecting merchandise of your favorite franchise is one thing, but I never heard of someone collecting figurines by a specific manufacturer. Of course, there will be some who collect all of them just like there are people who want to collect every McDonald's Happy Meal toy, but that should be extremely rare.
I assume that because these figurines are from franchises often associated with the "soyboy"/Redditor stereotype (Marvel, Disney Star Wars, Game of Thrones, etc.), it painted an image of someone who obsessively collects these figures.
@xianc78 at my local mall, there is a store that exclusively sells funko pops and it's been there since like 2019.
