@poopernova I got my pirated minecraft instance set up the other day so they can do whatever they want I still have my forever world, but vintage story and hytale are way better from what I've played so who knows if I'll ever go back

@Kyonko802 @poopernova I don't think Minecraft will ever die due to the appeal it has as being a simple game. Vintage Story's appeal is the exact opposite of Minecraft's at this point, which is good. Hytale wants to sidestep what Minecraft is and carve out it's own niche, also good. Neither can replace Minecraft though as they aren't attempting to.
Still, fewer and fewer people are actually going to want to play on newer versions with Mojang and Microsoft pulling the sanitize everything card. It all needs to be "safe" and "clean" so you could show it to anyone in existence and they will not even dare take offense. Mods take ages to consider updating to begin with and mod creators are likely to be adverse to such changes.

In this case, if FOSStards weren't retards, then Minetest, prior to the rebranding and restructuring of development, could have been that "replacement" of Minecraft by now. But drama and stupid libshit ideology always get in the way of good software.

When MumboJumbo, the only non-autistic, non-/g/tard/FOSStard influencer whom Luanti devs never deserved, made a video three years ago promoting it, he mainly presented Minetest as game contrasting Minecraft and not an engine. Did the devs come to Mumbo Jumbo to work with him to make a follow-up video with better and more information? Nope! They probably didn't want run icky proprietary Javascript to contact him. Interest peaked a little and quickly died out.
So it is not the public's fault for Minetest/Luanti devs not explaining all this key information clearly and up front, as well as them not working with big names to promote the more complete games made for the engine, as well as them not trying to aggressive attack Minecraft's market share of build-and-craft block games to scare off Microsoft. The fault lies with them.

It's not like they even cared about 100% FOSS anyway. Last time I checked (which was over a decade ago, but still) they allowed source-available content (including Lua scripts) on their forums.
