I feel like if I was born any earlier I would have learned how to actually code a game in C and if I was born any later I would have gone the Unity route. Instead, I got stuck with RPG Maker lol. That was the best engine that could run on my shitty family computer in 2005 and I poured so much of my free time into that for years and years. The only way I see myself learning something else to the same degree at this point is if I like, get in some accident and can't do anything for 6 months.
@beardalaxy If you had the patience back then you could've tried out any of the BASIC dialects that were available. You had to code everything yourself, but it was much simpler than C.
@beardalaxy You could've branched out to Gosu (game framework that uses Ruby) afterward.

I ended up learning a decent amount of ruby for rmxp but that's really useful anywhere else.
