Do you normally buy appliances new or used/second hand?

@xianc78 depends on the appliance. i have never bought a brand new washer or dryer for instance. but like, a brand new waffle maker, sure why not. it all depends on the price of the thing, i buy whatever my budget will accommodate.

@beardalaxy I try to buy used/second hand almost exclusively for ethical reasons: supporting my local economy as opposed to directly to big corporations.

@xianc78 we have a pretty nice family owned appliance store here we buy our stuff at, but it's the good stuff that will last at least a decade, usually two. so the higher price is fine imo. i would never buy the extra cheap stuff, that will fail after max. 4 years.

Chinese knockoffs! It's bad to say, but they last longer

@xianc78@gameliberty.club Depends on the appliance. I needed a fairly specific juicer and food processor so i got those from amazon, but i also got a used hand juicer at a very good price.

When i moved to my current appartment i bought the fridge from the previous renter for a very cheap price. That's the only large appliance i've ever bought.

I also got a new juicer from a flea market. Wasn't used but it was probably one of those items returned from an online shop due to whatever. Works well.
