Reality is the true cyberpunk. The cyberpunk "dystopias" were an idealistic fantasy.
New cyberpunk doesn't make sense because cyberpunk was written in the 80s to warn us of what kind of future might be. The future has come to pass. The prediction was wrong.
You can still write speculative stories about the near future, but they wouldn't look like cyberpunk. Thats what made old cyberpunk so good - it was somewhat plausible
