There's little generalization on pleroma instances since it's very popular among people who self-host since it's much easier to set up compared to MASS-to-don. It's also popular with people escaping GNU/Social's or Mastodon's nonsense. Some people do have values and are idealistic, some don't, some just shitpost and mess around, some are script kiddies and only want hurt because they liked torturing bugs in childhood.
With mastodon it's as you said - left-leaning tendencies. And given that mastodon's very real stereotype of blocking instances "just cuz" i would say its culture is disrupting the network and trying to create a "safe space" within the network.
Go on twitter. Say something that doesn't correlate with Twitter's policy. Get banned.
Go on mastodon. Say something that doesn't correlate with your instance policy. Get banned. Your friend on other instance said something that doesn't correlate with your admin's opinions? Well you can't talk to your friend anymore, enjoy your broken decentralized network.
