Anti: Children can't consent because of the power differential
Me: Did I mention I was pro2A? Because lots of people can't consent because of a power differential, which is why I want that differential to be minimized.

Consent is important, and the power to defend that consent is also important.

@amerika @rats @Jazzy_Butts stop being a square dude..... you're not getting the inside joke....
@amerika @Jazzy_Butts @rats why would you tell me to go ti an american supermarket chain 🤮

@kallisti @rats @Jazzy_Butts

Have an adventure. You probably have a local equivalent that uses the same model.

@amerika @rats @Jazzy_Butts no supermarket compares to the hypermarche, i only go to my walmart derivative for peanut punch

@kallisti @rats @Jazzy_Butts

I agree. Also kind of useful. It was open 24-7-364, had tools and tech gear, and was basically really convenient once you got there.

@kallisti @rats @Jazzy_Butts

I remember them both being huge. They did vary a bit in size depending on the neighborhood.

The really big Costcos are immense.

In LA, the one I went to was so big that the smog obscured the back wall when you were standing at the front.

@amerika @rats @Jazzy_Butts france puts massive ones everywhere. 3 of the LA scale (ten full length aisles for milk and cheese alone) for a town of 10k people

@kallisti @rats @Jazzy_Butts

There are some benefits to efficiency.

At some point however it becomes an alienating experience.

I visited a hypermarket in Italy too that also dwarfed humans.

Had like three giant aisles of wine alone...

@kallisti @rats @Jazzy_Butts

I have to throw this in for comparison:

foursquare.com/v/beverage-barn

I laugh every time I drive by.

It's nothing compared to the drive in bar and shooting range we used to have.

@amerika @rats @Jazzy_Butts oh yea, they had a wine warehouse store in one place i was at. also french so understandable

@kallisti @rats @Jazzy_Butts

France loves its small stores and cafes... but when you do not want to muck around with humanity, there is the hypermarket with its self-checkout line.

I think Houellebecq riffed on this, "deliberate loneliness."

@kallisti @rats @Jazzy_Butts

I used to shop exclusively in the middle of the night.

No people. The music bugged me however, but some stores dropped it.

They knew the late-night crowd was... different.

Follow

@amerika @kallisti @rats Yea I couldn't shop after covid because stores stopped being open 24hrs a day

@Jazzy_Butts @kallisti @rats

Almost everyone I know has all their groceries delivered now.

They skipped the middleman (themselves!).
