why do people think pirating books is unethical 💀 have you never heard about public libraries…?

@gloomyflower all piracy is awesome, doesnt matter what yr pirating. information should be free.

@zombiefemboy yeah, but the arguments against book piracy especially make no sense to me due to the existence of public libraries
@zombiefemboy it’s just that they don’t say anything about libraries but when people pirate stuff online they think it’s bad

@gloomyflower the stuff at the library was paid for tho, the authors/artists already got their due. its not the same as piracy at all, i dont understand your argument.

@zombiefemboy it’s paid for once. the people who upload media online also typically have to pay to get access to it in order to share it online

@gloomyflower yeah but only one person at a time can use the library’s copy, just like with any paid-for copy of something. when someone buys one Media and uploads it online, hundreds or thousands of people can use that same copy at the same time.

@zombiefemboy @gloomyflower What's stopping someone from calling up libraries until they find one that has the digital copy available for rent and renting it from them? I understand the point is to keep it 1/1 with how physical borrowing works but it's not 1/1 because I can't teleport to different libraries until I find one that has a physical copy, I can do that online with libraries and digital copies though.

@Jazzy_Butts @gloomyflower i think the thing stopping you is that you would need a library card at all of those libraries, and you can only get them as a resident of the area that library is located in.

@zombiefemboy @gloomyflower Huh...I thought you could use a library card at any library, doh

@Jazzy_Butts @gloomyflower each library (or library system, usually, which can be city or county based) issues its own
