When Eve was found out of cheating on Adam with another man and therefor forfeiting her immortality, Adam went and found another woman to commit the same sin, thus putting himself in the same situation as Eve. Adam then disappeared for forty days.
This is where the story of Osiris and Isis originate from. Adam (Osiris), did not go into the underworld but was lost in the wilderness for forty days. Eve (Isis) searched and mourned for him, thinking he was dead.
