I have the feeling we're all good at a few things, but is there anyone out there who's good at most things? Like I'm not such a good computer guy because I put too many points into outdoorsmanship, and I have a hard time learning things now because I'm too old, is there anyone out there who's basically superhuman? I've started eating better instead of trying to kill myself with overeating. I'm making fresh vegetable juice to drink every day. No more fake fruit drinks that have been pasteurized. This is what got me in shape before my depression so I know it'll work again. I just hope no one messes with me this time by "borrowing" my juicer and then never giving it back.

The thing about adults who spank children as punishment is that no matter what you say, you cannot reason with them. This is for three main reasons.
The first is that they think it's okay because their parents conditioned them to think it was okay. It's a cycle of generational abuse that was inflicted on them, their father before them, their father before their father, so on and so forth.
The second is that if their parents physically abused them more than spanking, they think we have it easy simply being beaten on our thighs and bottom. If you complain, you get called ungrateful.
The third is that they just don't care. Let me transcribe a conversation I had with my mother and aunt, both of whom spanked their children (including me).
I said, "There are other ways to make children behave."
To which they said, "How?"
And every time I gave them an idea, they would simply respond with, "and what if that doesn't work?"
Parents refuse to compromise with children because they think children are below them or unable to have intelligent ideas. Most parents today don't have the desire to adapt to their children's needs or personality; they force them to behave instead of persuade them. They don't help them grow; they train them like dogs.
I grew up with two parents who I had to watch physically restrain themselves from beating me. Not just spanking; beating. And verbal threats weren't uncommon alongside it. Seeing your father raise a fist to punch you and then putting it down scared me more than the idea of him actually hitting me. It was the fact that I had no clue if one day he would snap nor what would trigger it. All I knew is the urge was there. And that was a horrifying way to live as a mentally ill teen.
I want to grow up in a world where it is EXTREMELY ILLEGAL to put your hands on a child. No spanking, no slaps on the mouth, no dragging around. No form of a physical assault on children should be socially acceptable OR encouraged. But I know it won't be easy for all the reasons I listed above.
I just want to at least be alive to see society move in this direction.
