Google really did compromise Matrix
@thegergo02 because rooms are a shared state and you can't actually "host" a room, they're not owned by any server. It will affect users in your non-matrix.org room if they use a homeserver that engages in shadowbanning, and indirectly affects you.

@crunklord420 That’s the beauty of decentralization. You can just move. And this could be implemented by any idiotic matrix instance already.

@thegergo02 @crunklord420 >You can just move.

One of the most disgusting aspects of shadow-banning is that the user is not supposed to be informed about having been shadow-banned, making him lose interest in being part of the community, and also in the hopes of the psychopaths who came up with this, communities in general, since apparently he is being ignored by everyone.

I do not think people do realize just what does it mean... It is concept so evil, that there is almost no real life equivalent. :awooREEE:

Twitter's too smart for binary shadowbans. It's harder to notice when your message is still visible, just to something like 10% of its usual audience. "Well I'm still getting a few likes, so I guess I'm not shadowbanned" people figure. There is concrete evidence this is happening, as I've compared screenshots with others (i.e. a tweet is visible to me, but invisible to them).

They've also been engaging in a kind of reverse shadowbanning as well, to prevent discussion. Many started noticing around October last year.

Your message still gets out to some people, and they can even reply to it, but large swaths of those responses (sometimes 100% of them) are invisible to you and each other.

Idk if there's a term for it because it's not like one person getting muzzled, but groups of users collectively getting deafened.

Anyone still using it for right-of-center discussion at this point needs to recognize how manipulative and hostile the site is.

To a lesser extent it's been that way for at least 5 years, as they manually culled trending topics they didn't like and hid certain terms/users from search results, preventing conversation from spreading or like-minded people from finding one another.

I don't know why anyone's still on a site that so brazenly hates them and aggressively stifles their views.

It's done out of defiance. Safe to say that most of us here are introverts who just want to do our own thing, but extroverts really take it hard when they're excluded from popular websites. They want to be where the influencers are. They want to feel important by having their comments read by thousands of basic bitch retards.

Last time I was on twitter, I managed to keep it for about 2 months- In that time, I got responded by my favorite youtuber several times. And although these things might ound silly, the ego-boost is real and adictive.
