That's not exactly the assumption they make. But rather: if you're successful, especially overwhelmingly so, it must be because you have an unfair advantage. And the unfair advantage must be a consequence of the oppression that must exists in society.
Notice the usage of "must". They cannot think of any other possible explanations than the ones their narrative permits. They constantly create false dichotomies, they eliminate one possibility that they "debunk" or that conflicts with the political correct ideology, and they're left with their preferred option that MUST be true.
In any case, it's not a "if you're better than others", because their world view does not permit this possibility of "better". For them, all people are the same fundamental blank slates. There is no better. There are only people more successful because they receive more resources, education, etc. It MUST be this way, or else there's a possibility racists and sexists might be right that some people are inherently better than others. And we can't have that in our leftist ideology, now can we?
