@LukeAlmighty @alex That makes me wish that LaserDisc wasn't so niche, but at least back then, those ads were entertaining. I heard Blu-Ray is worse because you have constant encryption key updates.

@rude @LukeAlmighty @alex If it weren't for the PS3, Blu-Ray would have been an absolute failure. Virtually nobody was interested even before internet streaming or even digital downloads took off. Being held to the grips of Sony really screwed independent film-makers and people who wanted to sell recordings to events like concerts, plays, etc.

For me, this reached the peak with DVDs that force you to watch 15 minutes of ads before you can even use them.
