Modern "SMART" phones are so useless, you cannot even play a videa with locked screen. (Screen being the most energy consuming part, as well as light polution, when you just want some podcast while trying to sleep)
@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club well, i can do it. its just some dont want you to background playback (without paying). aka youtube. but you can just use alternatives like youtube vanced or newpipe for example.
same for othre providers.
for the system video player of my samsung, it works natively

@LukeAlmighty If your screen is locked you can't see the ads.

@LukeAlmighty yes, actually the system goes to sleep whenever you lock the screen to save energy.. just from time to time it wakes up on timer to do some periodic stuff..
but youtube stops playing on purpose.. try to install "youtube vanced" app, it plays on the background even with screen locked.. it is a modded original youtube app, probably not insecure (or not less secure than apps from google play :-))
