He wasn't.
Darth Vader was Sidiuses biggest disappointment. He was still the chosen one, born through the force etc... But he was a shell of his true potential after what happened to him.

That being said, dark side is also powered through pain, and... Vader suffered for the rest of his life, so that helped a lot.
