@LukeAlmighty @K Well, what they try to teach people DOES NOT make sense. And, it takes a long time to get people to implicitly accept it.
It doesn't make sense to pay twice as much for a house with a 30yr loan, it doesn't make sense to refinance after 10 years to a lower payment so you go back to paying mostly interest every month and you don't gain equity, it doesn't make sense to move to a better job after 2 years, to earn 1000$ more a month, and start a new 30yr loan, never realizing any equity in your first home.
It doesn't make sense to gamble large amounts of money in the stock-market. It doesn't make sense because the stock-market cannot create wealth for the investors, it only changes hands, with most of it going to big firms with automated trading, and into the hands of the people who own the business, and created the stock out of literally nothing and sold it to you. It doesn't make sense because the gamble is, that you are going to find someone to pay more for your piece of intrinsically valueless stock.
These are just the ones off the top of my head, you have to spend a lot of time and effort getting people to accept them. That is why people feel overwhelmed by economics, because they are made to feel stupid and dumb, when it doesn't make sense to them.
I think you are right on the money there, we don't have an ignorance issue, we have an indoctrination issue. By the time they are released from education, kids are in debt and convinced that the government is their loving god who will take care of them.
