Hot take to piss you all off

The original LOTR trilogy is to blame for modern Marvel mid-battle humor.

I don't know if they inspired it but they were okay in the movies because the scenes were pretty tense. I could believe the humor as being dark humor or just adrenaline making them say something absurd.

Like the "toss me" scene in the 2nd movie. It's humorous, but I can believe the conversation as being realistic. :gyate_lapislazuli_heh::back_from_gab: :ablobpanic:

Also, while they were hero-level beings, (at least from my memory of seing the movie about 10 years ago), they were on a battlefield, but they were not the deciding force in these battles.

There were still a million other people on both sides, so their humor didn't feel disrespectful to the humanity.

@LukeAlmighty
The problem with modern humor in movies is that it's off subject. It's a distraction from the plot of the movie.

Compare Spiderman vs Bonesaw and Tobey in the most recent spiderman movie.

When Spiderman taunts Bonesaw (that's a nice outfit, did your husband give it to you?) This is fine because he's in a fucked up wrestling match fighting a guy.

When I saw a clip of Tobey in the most recent spiderman (I didn't watch the movie) his quips seem to be out of character because he doesn't talk like that in the original movies. 🕷 :back_to_gab:

@LukeAlmighty Was there even that much humor in those movies? I remember the "I'm 😡💢 no 👊☠️ man 🧏✨" moment, but just because I've seen people bring it up... it was a pretty harmless joke though, I think... thankfully the era of feminist Hollywood was not here yet...

@deadheat
I meant the mid-battle jokes, not mid-battle feminism, but glad to ruin your day :ablobcool:

re: Hot take to piss you all off

@LukeAlmighty That was a joke, it was made in the context of the witch lord or whatever his name was saying "no man can kill me" or something like that

Also that character was clearly not feminist propaganda, she spends all the movie getting rejected and told to go away by everyone with pretty good arguments, until a chance to do something and a magic sword falls on her lap

@LukeAlmighty i think it was probably something like the marvel movies that had some "comedy" in them being more popular so they kept doing what the people liked
