"I was told, you aren't anorexic, you were born in the wrong body. This is your body fighting to be a boy. I remember posting online that I was growing hair all over my body because I was so underweight that I couldn't regulate my own body temperature. An adult told me that this was a sign that my body was fighting to be a boy. I was told to go find a letter of recommendation and that this would unlock all of my treatment and I could get whatever I needed to look different fast."

What the fuck?
@sim Psychiatry is a joke.

1980: everyone has dyslexia.

1990: everyone has add.

1995: everyone has ADHD.

2000. Everyone has autism.

2015. Everyone is transgender.
@Rocket Treating mental health is a joke too, so many people are left without the support that they need to manage whatever they are experiencing. At so many levels. Not just in the health or education industry, but they are neglected at the community and family levels... sometimes I wonder if it is by design.

@LukeAlmighty @sim @Rocket my best friend went to school for pharmacology and straight up said he wished he didn't because now he knows that doctors don't follow the procedure they're supposed to at all. it's supposed to be that you recommend lifestyle changes and work with that first, and then if it doesn't work you can prescribe. these days though docs just prescribe immediately and then work on lifestyle changes in conjunction with it.

i felt that completely going through seizures in high school. i was put on so many different drugs and not once did anyone ever talk to me about dieting or look into how my sleep was or my stress levels. at most it was just "stay hydrated" as i was put on the third medication that also fucked me up like the other ones.

@beardalaxy @LukeAlmighty @Rocket That sounds like my experience in the system. If they aren't turning me away, then it was taught to me that they started us on tablets for depression and then recommend to counselling or therapy to work on the lifestyle changes. You were supposed to get off the tablets after a few months. That didn't happen. Kind of sucks that we are basically treated like guinea-pigs with experimental drugs until they find what seemingly works but there is no way to measure it when it is just reporting about it if they care to listen to the symptoms we're having.
@LukeAlmighty @Rocket You might be onto something there. Then again, there seem to be plenty more people out there in need of support.
