Yeah, whenever I turn on the game, all I think is: This belongs on the Steam deck.

It plays better on Deck already if you set it up right. More consistent frame rates than Switch are achievable.

@snugglefist @LukeAlmighty @caekislove thankfully i have an unpatched switch so i'm running that shit overclocked, it's great

@caekislove @snugglefist @LukeAlmighty When is 2 coming out? I wanted to buy one, but I hate buying first generation.

I have an OLED Switch and I love it, but of course the hardware is old. Deck 2 needs an OLED screen. I can't go back to LCD now.
@LukeAlmighty @snugglefist @caekislove Four years? Wow, that's a long time. How can they go on that long without a refresh? By then the Switch will have moved to the next gen already.

Now, that's a brave assumption. Nintendo works in a verry particular style.

@LukeAlmighty @snugglefist @caekislove The Switch will have been updated by then, they know it's underpowered now. I think the chip shortage stopped them from upgrading the rest of the hardware so they went with the OLED screen. But they can't go another four years with this version of the Switch, it needs a bump up.

I'd like to see TOTK at 60 frames per second. I love my Switch, it's a great device. I play handheld mostly so I don't care about the screen resolution being bumped up, but the frame rate could be way better.
@morgthorak @snugglefist @LukeAlmighty There's no way Valve will even whisper about Steam Deck 2 until they have a million manufactured and ready to ship because it would tank sales of the original. That said, my wild guess is 2025, at the earliest.
@caekislove @snugglefist @LukeAlmighty I see, gotcha. Well I'll hold off until then. I want a Deck with an OLED screen. The difference visually was significant on the Switch. LCD looks drab by comparison.
@LukeAlmighty @snugglefist @caekislove I hate having to play on a monitor, I like to lay in bed or plop down in a chair in handheld mode. Once you get used to handheld, you just don't want to be tethered to a larger screen. I hardly ever play my Switch on my gaming monitor.
@caekislove @snugglefist @LukeAlmighty I'm surprised Valve hasn't released one, they could mark it up a bit. Maybe make more money on it as a premium version or whatever.

@morgthorak @snugglefist @caekislove
No need to do so.
Their goal was to send a warning shot to Microsoft, and to test a new market.

They didn't go all in on creating a new console line.

@LukeAlmighty @morgthorak @snugglefist I haven't really looked into it but I recall hearing about some Chinese manufacturers making Steam Deck like consoles, but "gold plated" (OLED screen, faster processor, etc). Of course, all that stuff costs more.

@caekislove @snugglefist @morgthorak
Yes, there are clones out there already. ROG Ally is the most well known one.

Yet another reason for valve to not just jump in with a cheap 2nd gen. They have to keep some dignity to a product, that now has a reputation for being so special.
